Building Belonging at Scale: How CSU Global and LSU Online Create Community for Online Learners
A student logs into an online class. No campus, no dorm, no classmates to bump into on the way to lunch. They're a working adult who chose online learning because it fits their life, not because it was their only option. They're motivated and career-focused, but without the everyday moments that build connections on a physical campus, it's easy to feel like they're doing it alone.
CSU Global and LSU Online didn't leave this to chance. Both serve students who won't set foot on a physical campus, so the connection has to be built somewhere else. CSU Global partnered with InScribe to bring intentional peer connection to its online students, now reaching 15,000 students across the institution, while LSU Online built LSU Tiger Connect, a dedicated space where students connect through both broad community discussion and program-specific channels.
